Dir, State Government Relations (West Coast)

Position Summary
The Director, State and Local Government Relations - West Coast,
serves as the primary contact point on all state and local
government affairs matters for states located on the US West Coast
(California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Nevada,
Idaho, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana, and Alaska). Under the
direction of the Vice President for Government Relations, provides
intelligence, advice, and support for all Group businesses and
U.S.-based companies and Head Office concerning proposed
regulatory, legislative and policy changes and community relations
in states where the Group does business. Represents the Group
before state and local governments including elected officials,
councils, legislatures and staff. Leads and supports grant and
other resource opportunities for Group companies with local and
state governments.
Functions & Duties
--- Provides intelligence, advice, and support for all Group
businesses and U.S.-based companies and Head Office concerning
proposed regulatory, legislative, and policy changes and community
relations in states where the Group does business.
--- Represents the Group before state and local governments and
with selected professional organizations and associations to
advocate on behalf of Group businesses.
--- Communicates with customers, vendors, and other stakeholders as
required regarding state laws, policies, and their business
impact.
--- Leads and supports grant and other resource opportunities for
Group companies with local and state governments.
--- Provides support and backup for other special projects in the
U.S. and on global matters as required.
--- MISCELLANEOUS RELATED DUTIES or PROJECTS AS ASSIGNED
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
--- Strong Knowledge of regulatory, legislative, and policy roles
of state and local governments.
--- Must be able to work independently or in a team setting.
--- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
--- Ability to handle complex assignments.
--- Excellent advocacy and negotiating skills.
--- Strong interpersonal and management skills and ability to work
with subordinates, contemporaries, and executive personnel.
--- Strong communication and public speaking skills, as well as
excellent writing skills.
--- Strong skills in use of M.S. Office, including M.S. Word, MS
PowerPoint, and M.S. Excel
--- spreadsheet systems.
--- Ability to plan, prioritize and manage workload independently
as well as work in a deadline-driven environment.
--- Ability to work under pressure and thrive in a multi-task,

Education:
Required: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred: Master's Degree
Work Experience:
General Experience: 8-12 years
Industry Experience: 3-5 years (preferred)
